XymphonyProgramming-SettingTheSignalingTypeForAParticularE1

Although licenses may have been installed at the factory, all Telesis systems are not pre-configured at the factory for any specific application. To illustrate, a Telesis system may have been shipped with ISDN signaling licenses for E1 interfaces, however the factory default signaling for all E1 interfaces is CAS. With some simple programming, signaling type of an E1 can be selected as another in the field.

If Homepage is accessed for a Telesis system with the factory default parameters, it shows E1 interface as E1Dss1NT_NNN. There, NNN indicates the total number of E1 voice channels available in the system.

Selecting another signaling or protocol type for an E1 interface is easy. First, it is necessary to access Common properties page of the relevant E1. There are several ways to access Common properties page. Selecting a channel and pressing Common button opens the Common properties page of the selected channel.

In Common properties page, Change interface type is used for changing the interface type. Select the desired signaling or protocol from the pulldown menu and press Apply button next to the right. After the page refreshes, click on OK button.

Be aware that setting the signaling type is not the last step for programming an E1 interface. Depending on the signaling type, further programming might be required for a proper communication the TDM network connected. Furthermore, some of the signaling types may require E1 interfaces to be restarted.

If a signaling or protocol type of an E1 interface is modified from a CAS type to a CCS one, the access code of the E1 will also change or be simplified, such that:

  • For the E1 having channel access codes 50001 to 50031, the default access code of the E1 will be simplified to 50000
  • For the E1 having channel access codes 50101 to 50131, the default access code of the E1 will be simplified to 50100
  • For the E1 having channel access codes 50201 to 50231, the default access code of the E1 will be simplified to 50200
  • and so on.

In other words, voice channels in an E1 interface with a CCS signaling do not have individual access codes. Instead, the interface itself has an access code.

Do not forget: Whenever OK button is clicked in Common properties pages, the modified parameters are sent to the operational memories of the Telesis system. The operational memories are RAMs, so that, they can be lost if the Telesis system is powered down. In order to store these programmed parameters to the nonvolatile memories of the system, Save command in Homepage should be operated. There, click on OK button to store programmed parameters to the nonvolatile memories.
